The Pennesseewassee Brewing Co., LLC (PBC) was founded in 2011 and became operational in 2012. The PBC brewery is located in the village of Bolsters Mills in Harrison. The founder and CEO, Lee Margolin, has been a homebrewer since the ‘80’s but recently left his career as the Director of Research and Compliance with a Maine-based biomedical engineering firm to start the brewery. While Dr. Margolin still keeps a finger in the world of neuroscience (his Acme Lamprey Company collects and supplies live lamprey to research institutions in North America and Europe), he has refocused his biological, quality, and regulatory backgrounds onto all matters brewing. His 1.5 bbl. system is currently dedicated to producing PBC’s flagship Pale Ale (which he affectionately calls ‘Pennybrew’), although two new styles are under development; a kolsch-like hybrid ale and an organic boysenberry honey brown ale. Plans for a new brewery building and larger brewing system are in effect, and Penny Brew will be expanding to a 3BBL system in summer 2015.
